The ct scan showed an abscess in Lin's abdominal cavity so she's on a round of antibiotics to kill the beast - also has a couple of drains for draining fluid from the abscess. Good thing we're here. She also had a visit from the infectious diseases team yesterday - now didn't that initially make our hearts plummet? But they will be recommending a course of antibiotics to be taken after Linda is discharged and they just wanted to go over how they will determine the best meds - they sure knew lots about what's happened to her. We've been lobbying for a private room for the end of her stay at the Foothills Resort and Spa - will find out today or tomorrow if we whined enough!

My first batch of shortbread turned out dry and tasteless - argghh! Not enough practice - will try again later today.

  2. what's with that 'infectious diseases' thing? hope your whining paid off Lorraine... I've seen it work in the past ;) What happened to the idea of butter, brown sugar and pecans though?! Sounds better than shortbread by a mile, but keep on baking. Great therapy :) I dare not use the word "cold" here (being a prairie girl and all) but it's damn nippy!!! love and hugs to you both.

  4. Tell the docs that, mid way through the Grey Cup game with Sask. trailing by 6 points . . . and Fantuz about to catch a 12 yard pass that would put the Riders at 2nd and goal with seconds remaining in the first half . . . they'll REALLY wish they'd have found our prairie princess a private room!! :-)

    One day at a time, sisters . . . . ! Love you both . . . .

  5. Will try to send some strong vibes your way for a "private room". I think I might try batch of shortbread as well. I have never made it with brown sugar, I do the kind that calls for icing sugar and some corn starch. We're freezing our butts off in Vernon, just like Calgary. We miss you both and look forward to having you back when the time is right. Take Care. Hugs from Ren and Den PS Lorraine I have lots of little crafty ideas to show you.

  6. sending best wishes and energy for the room and the shortbread and whatever you make with pecans! Yum! I think you are smart to start Christmas baking, just to get nice homemade goodies. Try sharing some of that with the angels in charge of room allotments!
Love to you both. I bet Tracy will enjoy her winnings.

Us Brits love shortbread. Hint! hint!
Glad to see Calgary is warmer than Vernon finally. You must be having a CHINOOK. Aren't they amazing. Hope your head isn't feeling them too like lots of people do.
Hang in there friends. You can do it, you can do it.
